The Regata Storica is the main Venetian rowing event of the year. It contains a mixture of rowing pageants and voga alla veneta races and takes place on the afternoon of the first Sunday in September.
By paddling down to the Canal Grande before the events start, you can get a front row experience of this most Venetian of all Venetian events. Venice Kayak organises such tours each year on the Sunday of the Regata Storica.
The official program runs from 4pm until around 7pm, and mostly takes place on the Canal Grande.
Our tour will start on the Certosa Island, where we’ll meet at 2pm, which leaves us time to get ready and paddle down to at 2pm a suitable spot on the Canal Grande. The police stop all traffic on the Canal Grande from 3pm, so we need to be in place then. We will stay in the same area for entire duration of the events, until around 7pm when we’ll return to the Certosa Island by kayak.
As we’ll be sitting still in the kayaks for quite some time, bring plenty of water and snacks.
