Vogalonga 2012
The Vogalonga is a 30km paddling/rowing race through the city of Venice and the lagoon up to Burano. Almost all rowed or paddled boats can participate, and there’s even a separate category for kayaks. There are usually well over one thousands boats in the race, of many types.
All participants are issued a diploma of participation. The Vogalonga is not a competitive race and there are no winners. It’s all about being there.
In 2012 the Vogalonga is held on Sunday, May 27th.
Venice Kayak offers a two day package, with a guided tour of the city of Venice on Saturday, May 26th, and participation in the Vogalonga on Sunday, May 27th.
The guided tour on Saturday is an opportunity to explore parts of Venice that will not be seen during the Vogalonga, such as many of the smaller canals off the Canal Grande and further away from the centre. Meeting time is at 10am on the Certosa island, in the bar at the Certosa hotel, departure around 11am, and return between 5pm and 6pm. It is a very relaxed paddle, with a good lunch break, so everybody’s still fit for the Vogalonga the next day.
The Vogalonga on Sunday starts at 9am, departure from the Certosa island at 8pm the latest. Meeting time at the bar of the Certosa Hotel at 7pm. The Vogalonga can be done in a group with the guides, or separately.
Price
The two day package is €300 per person, inclusive the inscription to the Vogalonga and pickup of bibs and t-shirts before the Vogalonga.
Associated with the Vogalonga weekend we have evening paddles on Thursday, May 24th, and on Monday, May 28th, which for participants of the Vogalonga weekend are €100 per person.
Practical Information

All tours are guided by experienced Italian and English speaking kayak coaches.
Guests should bring sports clothes and shoes suitable for paddling, a change of clothes for afterwards, and protective items for outdoor activities, such as sunscreen, a hat and sun glasses. Water and snacks can be bought on the camp site.
Don't bring cameras that aren't waterproof. It only takes a few drops of salt water to ruin a camera or other electronics. Venice Kayak has one or more waterproof cameras suitable for taking pictures while kayaking. We will send you the photos we take afterwards.
